Winemaking: This  is a young wine from old  vines. The vineyards are located in El Molar (Priorat region) and range from 40 and 80 years old.  After a process of hand harvest and selection in the vineyard and the cellar the grapes were desestemed  and placed in French oak 600 liter barrels for a period of maceration and fermentation. A gentle extraction during the fermentation created a balanced wine. After fermentation the wine passed for a period of reductive aging of 6 months in stainless steel tanks. This  wine was bottled without any clarification or filtration.

Characteristics: Old  vines have the ability to make wines with great structure, concentration and power. The colour of the wine is intense purple. In the nose a intense red / black fruit and spices appears and it develops extraordinarily in glass. In mouth the ripe tannins are perfectly blended with a well  balanced acidity. Notes of plum jam  and red fruits become intense on the palate, along with ripe tannins that provide a pleasant silkiness. The long maturity of its  Grenache fruit adds complexity to this Mediterranean wine.

Discovery Story: Absent from the U.S. market for over 10 years, we’re excited to rediscover and share the wines of Melis. The Saurí, produced by Melis, is a “Village Wine”; all grapes were grown within vineyards in the Priorat village of El Molar. Being closer to the sea, and bottled young, this is a surprising wine from the Priorat region.
